Were you in 4-H as a child? Were you a 4-H club volunteer? Do you know what the four H’s stand for? Do you have a touching, funny, or interesting story about your past participation in 4-H? Do you still have any of your 4-H projects or photos?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we would love to hear from you! As you may know, North Carolina 4-H is celebrating 100 years this year. As a part of celebration, we are looking for any stories or pictures you could provide for us to include in an article we are putting together to celebrate the past 100 years of 4-H in North Carolina and Scotland County.

If you have any of these items or would like to tell your 4-H story, please call the North Carolina Cooperative Extension office at 277-2422 or email corrie_haskins@ncsu.edu. We look forward to hearing 4-H stories and seeing 4-H pictures from anytime in the past 100 years!

Don’t know about 4-H? 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H is about having fun, learning, exploring and discovering. In 4-H, young people make new friends, develop new skills, become leaders and help shape their communities.

More than 208,000 youth are involved in 4-H through community/project clubs, special interest programs, school enrichment programs, in after school programs, and through our Operation Military Kids program.

4-H gives youth a chance to explore their own interests - from photography to computers, from building rockets to raising animals. Youth attend events such as district retreats and camps, as well as, state and national conferences. They learn to be outstanding citizens and excellent leaders.

In 4-H, youth learn life skills such as public speaking, decision-making, organizational/planning, leadership, teamwork, record keeping and communications skills. To find out more about 4-H, call the Extension office at 277-2422 or check out 4-H on the web at www.nc4h.org.
