The Scotland High School men's varsity soccer team (1-3-1) got its first win of the season on Wednesday night against Pine Forest High School.

The Scots beat Pine Forest 4-1, dominating defensively the whole game and kept the Trojans scoreless until the last five minutes of the game.

Head Coach Colin McDavid said the win meant that his team was improving in all aspects of the game.

"I am happy for the guys, to finally get our first win," he said. "I have been saying all week long that they have been playing hard and each game we have improved."

"The fact that my boys are improving, thats what I want to see," he said. "Everything is setting in place now for the boys."

The Fighting Scots got on the board fast and early, just 37 seconds into the game. Sophomore forward, Evgheny Khandoga received a cross from Senior forward, John Yarborough and put the ball in the back of the net to put the Scots up 1-0. Khandoga's goal would be the game winner for the Scots and they never looked back from there.

Minutes later Scotland scored again. Khandoga would get his second goal of the game in the 15th minute by beating two Trojan defenders with nice ball skills and put the ball away far post beating the keeper.

Scotland's third goal was an own goal and the Scots got a little bit of breathing room for the rest of the game. Senior midfielder, Leo Morales served a ball toward the Trojan's goal and a defender headed the ball into the back of the net.

The half would end with Scotland up 3-0.

Sophomore forward, Mateen Alingahian, scored the fourth and final goal of the night for the Scots. Alingahian received a throw in from Junior midfielder, Alex Fricke and one-timed it past the goalkeeper.

The Trojans would get their only goal just 5 minutes left in the game.

Khandoga has four goals on the season putting him at the top of the scoring tally with Balyn Krout.

McDavid said Khandoga is finally playing like he can.

"Evgheny was more mobile tonight," McDavid said. "Tonight he was smooth with the ball and not tight like he has been in the past games, so I am pleased with that."
