The Fighting Scots Soccer squad (0-3-1) was an offsides call short of winning their first game of the season on Tuesday night against South View.

That said, Scotland tied South View High School 3-3 at Pate Stadium and played from behind most of the game through some adversity, Head Coach Colin McDavid said.

"It says a lot about this group of boys to play through some tough times," he said. "I have a large group of kids and I'm trying to get the boys as much playing time as I can."

"I tell my boys to be ready, and when I call on them, I want them to step in there and don't let the level of intensity drop." McDavid said. "I saw that tonight, I was able to make rotations and we didn't drop our level of intensity at all."

McDavid also liked that his team added more of a passing game and was able to switch the ball from side to side.

"The boys are starting to do what I am asking them and I like that about my boys," he said. "The execution is not 100 percent but I can see as a coach that they are trying to do what I am asking them to do, and that is fantastic."

South View scored their first goal in the ninth minute from a counter attack. The goal came from a long ball from South View's central defense that turned into a break away from midfield by one of South View's forwards. The forward beat Scotland's centerbacks Joe Sojka and Cody Marcure at midfield and ran for an easy goal past Scotland's goalkeeper Josh Wheeler.

Scotland answered right away with their own goal in the 25th minute to tie the game at one apiece.

Senior midfielder Johnny Lee scored the goal for the Scots. Senior Leo Morales took a corner kick from the left side of the pitch, the South View defense headed the ball out right to Lee who was standing at the top of the 18-yard box and one-timed the ball past the goalkeeper.

South View would answer in the 30th minute with another goal to go ahead 2-1.

Scotland's Sojka misjudged a ball played to him and a South View forward took the ball and shot it past Wheeler.

The first half would end with South View up 2-1.

Scotland would answer just three minutes into the second half with a goal by sophomore forward Evgheny Khandoga. Khandoga tied the game with an unassisted goal from just inside the 18-yard box that went far post of South View's keeper. The game would stay deadlocked at 2-2 until South View got a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.

South View's player tucked the ball away on the left side of Wheeler for the go ahead goal.

In the 62nd minute Scotland tied the game up from 40-yards out. Sophomore left back Aaron Stevens took the free kick that was just outside of the South View keeper's reach and the ball went in for Scotland's third goal of the night.

In the 74th minute Scotland had a chance to win the game with Scotland's fourth goal of the night, but with an offsides call from the sideline referee the goal was overturned.

The game would end 3-3.

McDavid liked how his team put the ball on goal more to make more chances for the team.

"We framed the goal a lot better tonight, rather than the last couple of nights," he said. "We had more numbers up after a shot and were able to make the rebounds."

The Scots play their third game in as many days against Pine Forest on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Jayvee soccer play at 5 p.m.

Pine Forest beat Scotland 3-2 in Pine Forest last week. "We want to do what they did to us at our home, so it will be an exciting game," McDavid said.
