Police arrested 29-year old Jody Neil Singletary, of Apartment 12, Trade Wind Apartments, Biggs Street, Laurinburg on Saturday night, a police report said. He is charged with four counts of breaking and entering and was placed in Scotland County jail under a $50,000 bond.
Police say he was found at the scene of his most recent break-in – Berwick Medical Center.
Officers responded to a burglar alarm around 9 p.m. at the doctor's office, which located on Berwick Drive near Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Brad Faulkenberry went with police through the office, finding nothing stolen. A window was broken, however, and several drawers showed signs that someone had rummaged through them and locks on two drawers had been broken.
Officers set up a perimeter around the business while combing the area with a K-9 unit for the suspect.
An officer watched Singletary walk out of a wooded area and attempt to cross the street towards Scotland Memorial Hospital. He was arrested and admitted to the Berwick break-in, as well as three others.
The report says Singletary confessed to the July 28 break-ins at Ned's Pawn Shop and Community Drug Store and the Aug. 17 break-in at Scotland Family Dentistry.
At Ned's, someone had entered by breaking out the glass in the front door. Reported missing were various pieces of gold jewelry. It also appears that thieves attempts to take guns from the store, but were unsuccessful.
At the Community Drug Store, the front door was broken and two cinder blocks were found by the door. Taken from the drug store was two 500 count bottles of prescription painkillers.
Singletary has been incarcerated twice, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections.
He spent close to 11 months in prison on three felony charges – breaking and entering, larceny and fraud – as well as assault with a deadly weapon and several lesser charges.
Before that, he spent four months in prison on nearly identical charges.
