The Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast is urging the Scotland County community to send brief descriptions or stories of ordinary individuals who have made a heroic impact on others.
Selected heroes will be honored at a storytelling and music celebration on September 12 in Laurinburg.
Submission guidelines are simple:
No more than 500 words and no less than 250 words;
Stories will be judged on content and heroism of the person you are writing about. Writing ability will not be judged.
Must be emailed to info@sfoc.info by 8/12/09, or mailed to SACS; P.O. Box 2154; Laurinburg, NC 28353;
Must include a description of the person in 50 words or less (the 50 words may be in addition to the story). Include: name, residence, age now and when the hero event occurred; male or female; relationship to you the writer; living or deceased; etc.
Must include the writer’s name, full address, phone number, and email address if available;
Must include permission to allow the SACS to use the story in a publication and/or as a story told by a storyteller; and to build upon the story that you wrote.
If your story is selected, you must be willing to speak with the storyteller who will tell the story.
