Police say they recovered a stolen car after a traffic stop Wednesday night and arrested a Clio, S.C. teen for driving the stolen vehicle. A second possible suspect fled from the scene.
According to a police report, Arthur Lydell Franklin, 16, of Rosewood Drive, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and driving without a license.
An officer pulled over a white Ford Ranger with South Carolina tags with three occupants at the Kangaroo Gas Station on South Main Street. A passenger ran from the vehicle and police were unable to locate the individual, according to the report.
Police asked the driver, Franklin, and the remaining passenger about the car. Both said they were unsure who owned the vehicle.
Officers then contacted owner of the vehicle via the Marlboro County Sheriff's Department. They were told the vehicle was stolen.
Franklin was placed in Scotland County jail under a $15,000 secured bond.
Authorities have yet to charge anyone with the theft of the vehicle.
