Members of the Scotland County Board of Elections will be sworn in Monday at 4:15 p.m. at the Clerk of Courts office.

Returning board members are Jana Wegner, Hal Culberson, and William Bullard.

Following the ceremony, the board will elect a chairman and secretary. The August meeting will follow at 5 p.m.

The agenda includes:

• A resolution to close precinct 8 for the 2009 election.

• Updates on training seminars.

• Discussion of the Aug. 18th appointment of chief judges and judges.

• An update on the candidates listing for the 2009 election.

"We close the precinct during every [municipal election]," said Jerry Johnson, assistant director of the Scotland County Board of Elections.

Johnson says the precinct, based around Snead's Grove, primarily serves people in the county, but also covers 11 people inside Laurinburg city limits.

He said that closing the precinct defers the costs of having the site open, which would be paid for by the city of Laurinburg. The handful of city voters will be sent letters with directions on where they need to go to vote.
