McDonald's Brothers, Inc., a supplier of building materials, will close its Laurinburg location Tuesday, the company announced recently.
The warehouse on Main Street will be consolidated with the company's main store in Southern Pines.
Angus McDonald, owner of McDonald Brothers, says the company is trying to adapt to the current economic conditions.
"The economy is bad, and in Scotland its worse," McDonald said.
He said that some of the store's 15 employees will stay on, either working out of their homes or at the Southern Pines location. McDonald was unsure how many would stay on at this point.
The workers from the Laurinburg store will still service Scotland, Richmond, Hoke and Robeson counties, the owner said.
He added that most of their business came from Richmond and Hoke counties.
McDonald Brothers was founded in the fall of 1885, by brothers Moses and Daniel McDonald – Angus's grandfather and great-uncle respectively – in West End, N.C.
"We've been in it for 124 years," McDonald said. "We're a family owned business and we are trying to do what we need to do to keep on going."
He said other locations will not be affected at this time.
McDonald says when the economy improves, the company may look at locating another warehouse in Laurinburg, but added that it would be long-time before that could happen.
