LOCUST — The Scotland County Parks and Recreation 14-U All Stars went 2-2 to finish runner-up in the SWAC West Regional Tournament on Saturday, becoming the first Scotland County Parks and Rec. softball team to advance to a state tournament in the process.

Scotland County rode the pitching of Bailey Jacobs, a standout from Carver Middle School's championship-winning softball team this spring. Jacobs struck out 30 batters in her team's four games last weekend.

Scotland County's top hitters in the regional were Erin Snead, Destiny Blue, Courtney Williams, Quintavia DeBerry and Jacobs. DeBerry and Williams both notched homers during the tournament.

Scotland County opened the tournament with an 8-3 loss to Alamance County. Wins of 11-8 over Fair Grove and 10-5 against Moore Co. followed, advancing the Scotland All Stars to the championship round.

There, Scotland would meet Alamance Co. again, this time losing an 8-7 heartbreaker in extra innings. The international tiebreaker format was used in extra innings, meaning each team starts its at-bat with a runner on second base. Scotland scored once in the top of the seventh inning, but lost when Alamance Co. scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Scotland Parks and Recreation All Stars will be back in action at this weekend's SWAC State Tournament, which will be held in Burlington.
