Laurinburg
Six candidates filed for three council seats are up in Laurinburg.
Mayor Pro-Tem Rembert Deberry has two challengers – Ralph Carter and Kenton Spencer – for his at-large seat.
Councilman Herbert Rainer, District 1, will face challenger Hattie Ray in November.
Councilman Tommy Parker, District 2, is running unopposed.
Laurinburg council members serve four-year terms. The filing fee for Laurinburg is $25
East Laurinburg
Seven people filed for four positions in East Laurinburg. The mayor and all three commissioner seats are up for reelection.
Wayne Caulder and Harry F. Pittman are running for mayor. The current East Laurinburg mayor, Randy Miller, said he would not seek reelection.
Commissioners Marshall Stevens and Robert Lee Wallace and challengers Jimmy L. Biggs, Betty Robbins and Beverly Robbins Scott will compete for three seats in East Laurinburg.
Commissioner Earlene Fowler did not file for reelection.
The filing fee for East Laurinburg is $18 for mayor and is $12 for commissioner. East Laurinburg mayors and commissioners serve 2-year terms.
Gibson
In Gibson, the mayor and three commissioners are up for reelection.
Incumbent commissioners Lula Adelle Cottingham and Charles Freddie Webb and Mayor Ronnie Hudson have filed for reelection. Mack “Pete” Wilkins is also running for a commission seat. Commissioner Thompson Jones did not seek reelection.
The mayor in Gibson serves a two-year term while commissioners serve four-year terms. Filing fees are $5 for each position.
Maxton
In Maxton, two commissioner seats are up for grabs. Both seats are open as Commissioners Sallie McLean and James McClanathan not seek reelection.
James McDougald, Minnie Pipkin Miller and Victor R. Womack Sr. are competing to fill McLean and McLanathan's seats.
Maxton commissioners serve 4-year terms. Filing fee is $15.
Wagram
The positions of Wagram mayor and three council members are also up for reelection.
Councilmen Robert McLaughlin, Hyder Massey, Jr. and Jackie W. Leviner are seeking reelection, as is Mayor Milton Farmer. No one filed to challenge any of the incumbents.
The two candidates for council receiving the most votes for council will serve four-year terms while the third place finisher will serve for two years. Wagram mayors serve for two years. Filing fees for Wagram are $5.
