Scotland’s first season in the Central Carolina Scholastic Baseball League ended with a rainout on Thursday.

Heavy showers nixed the Scots’ game with Middle Creek, which will not be rescheduled. The CCL playoffs begin next week, but Scotland will not be a part of the postseason, finishing the summer of ’09 with a 6-7 record, including back-to-back losses to Pinecrest and Richmond — the Southwest Division’s top two teams — on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Scotland’s rough transition from American Legion baseball to the CCL was to be expected. The high school had four All Mid-Southeastern Conference Team members in the spring who could not play in the summer after graduating (seniors and returning college freshmen were permitted to play American Legion baseball). The majority of the players on this summer’s Scotland team were either junior-varsity players or varsity backups during high-school season.
