According to the Scotland County Board of Elections, incumbent Council member Herbert Rainer filed for reelection Tuesday while Wayne Caulder filed to run for mayor of East Laurinburg on Wednesday.
Hattie Pegues Ray is also running for the District 1 seat in Laurinburg.
The current East Laurinburg mayor, Randy Miller, said he would not seek reelection at the end of his term.
James McDougald has also filed to run for the Maxton Board of Commissioners, according to the Robeson County Board of Elections. He filed Tuesday.
McDougald is the only one to file so far for the two seats available in Maxton. The incumbents are Sallie McLean and James McLanahan.
Filing ends Friday at noon.
Laurinburg
In Laurinburg, three council seats are up – one for district 1, one for district 2 and the at-large seat.
Councilman Tommy Parker, District 2, and Mayor Pro-Tem Rembert Deberry, At-Large, both filed for reelection.
Laurinburg council members serve four-year terms. The filing fee for Laurinburg is $25.
East Laurinburg
In East Laurinburg, where all three at-large commissioner seats and the mayor's position are up for reelection.
Incumbent commissioners Marshall Stevens and Robert Lee Wallace filed for reelection. Jimmy L. Biggs is also running for a commission seat.
Commissioner Earlene Fowler, the third incumbent, is not running for reelection.
The filing fee for East Laurinburg is $18 for mayor and is $12 for commissioner. East Laurinburg mayors and comm serve 2-year terms.
Gibson
In Gibson, the mayor and three commissioners are up for reelection.
Incumbent commissioners Lula Adelle Cottingham and Charles Freddie Webb and Mayor Ronnie Hudson have filed for reelection. Mack “Pete” Wilkins is also running for a commission seat. The other incumbent commissioner is Thompson Jones.
The mayor in Gibson serves a two-year term while commissioners serve four-year terms. Filing fees are $5 for each position.
Wagram
The positions of Wagram mayor and three council members are also up for reelection.
Incumbent Councilmen Robert McLaughlin and Hyder Massey, Jr. have both filed for reelection, as has Mayor Milton Farmer. The third incumbent, Jackie Laviner, has not filed.
The two candidates for council receiving the most votes for council will serve four-year terms while the third place finisher will serve for two years. Wagram mayors serve for two years. Filing fees for Wagram are $5.
