According to games Vice Chairman Beacham McDougald, the promotional effort paid off well for the future of the Scotland County games.
"I got a lot of positive feedback about the Scotland County games from both visitors and from those I approached at their clan tents," McDougald said. "I feel good about it."
Attendance for the festival was estimated at more than 30,000.
"Before the rest of the group arrived at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games on Saturday with thousands of Scotland County Highland Games brochures to distribute, I rounded up about 40 on Friday and passed them out at our tent," McDougald said. "They lasted about 10 minutes."
Scotland County Highland Games committee members Tim Rumph, John and Sara Stewart, the Hon. Bill and Sherry McIlwain, Howard and Dorothy Cross and others took turns manning the booth and sharing information about the Oct. 3 event in Laurinburg.
Hospitality Committee Chairperson Lillian Boger was one of those in attendance.
"I was there to both inform people about our upcoming games in Scotland County and to visit their hospitality tent to get some ideas," Boger said. "I actually think we can do a little more in Laurinburg than they did; as a result of our visit, (hospitality committee member) Dottie Cross and I have planned a variety of baked goods and other items for the Scotland County Highland Games hospitality tent that I think everyone will enjoy."
Games officials received a monetary contribution while attending the Grandfather Mountain games when the St. Andrews Society of MacRae Meadows donated $300 to help with expenses connected to the children's event portion of the Scotland County Games.
"Since children's activities will be a major part of the Scotland County Highland Games," McDougald said, "the St. Andrews Society of MacRae Meadows, which supports children's activities at all games, was kind enough to make a contribution to us."
Some 20 Scottish clans are expected at the Scotland County games, to be held at the John Blue House in Laurinburg. Highland athletic competition, border collie demonstrations, live music, and other attractions are planned.
