Scotland athletes bring home 6 state titles from Hershey games

CARY — Six Scotland County athletes competed in the Hershey's Track and Field North Carolina State Meet on Friday in Cary, and three of the six combined to win six state titles:

Zamir White, 9, won the state title in the 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash and softball throw in the 9-10 year-old division.

Scotland's Yusef Gibson won the state 200-meter dash at the 11-12 year-old division.

In the 13-14 year-old division, Justin Brown won the state title in the 100-meter dash and the softball throw, and he finished third in the 800-meter run.

Two other Scotland competitors placed in the 13-14 year-old division: Jalen McLean placed second in the 200, and Aatianna Williams was third in the 100.

In the 9-10 year-old division, Destiny McDonald was seventh in the 50-meter dash.

Baseball

ELIZABETHTOWN — Scotland County's Parks and Recreation All-Star baseball teams were both eliminated at the District 9 AAA tournament in Elizabethtown over the weekend.

Scotland National dropped a 15-0 decision Friday to West Robeson National and lost Saturday 11-0 to Fairmont. The leading hitters for Scotland National were Nathaneal Carpenter, Stevin Wallace and Aaron Locklear.

Scotland American was defeated 24-3 by Lumberton National and 12-3 By Fairmont. The leading hitters for Scotland American were William Cox, Brandon Harris, Jaylaan Poe and Tyleak Campbell.
