Members of the Scottish Pilot Club of Laurinburg met recently at the Clinton Inn to install new officers for 2009-2010. New club members for the year were also inducted and a new Pilot of the Year was named.

Outgoing President Debbie Quick presided over the event.

"It's been a good year," she said. "I've enjoyed my term as president, and I will continue to be involved in Scottish Pilot Club activities. Our fund raisers went well despite the economy, and the club met all its goals for making contributions to the organizations it supports."

Quick presented the Pilot of the Year award to club member Sybil Sikes.

"Sybil always helps the club in any way she can," Quick said. "She is our publicity person, and does a great job of getting Scottish Pilot Club information and events out to the media. She works hard for the club, and does it all with a smile on her face."

Sandy Carter of Laurinburg was installed as the new president of the organization for 2009-2010.

"I'm very honored to be the president of the Scottish Pilot Club," she said. "Many of the ladies involved in the club are those who I have looked up to for a long time. It means a lot to have been elected by them."

Jane Callahan, membership chairman, inducted new members Jennifer Cole and Kim Liles and presented a long stem yellow rose to each. New member Charlotte Pilson was unable to attend.

Nancy Adcock, assisted by Sybil Sikes, installed the upcoming officers of the Club and presented each a long stem yellow rose.

In addition to Carter, new officers include President-Elect Mary Ann Salemme; Vice President Gail Bullard; Treasurer Pat Fields; Recording Secretary Diana Johnston, and Corresponding Secretary Joyce Jewell.

Directors include Dixie Cox, Jennifer Cole, Diane Stokes and Debbie Quick. Sylvia Nelson is the lead director.

Sara Logan, Laurinburg PIlot Club member, was a special guest. Logan was instrumental in starting the Scottish Pilot Club of Laurinburg.

Scottish Pilots will not meet in July, but will begin their new year the second Wednesday in August, according to Carter. The group meets twice monthly and invites all those interested in joining to contact Jane Callahan or Sandy Carter at 276-3367 or 280--2159.

Special musical entertainment was presented by Gary Gallman and Donna Young for Scottish Pilot Club members and their spouses, also known as co-pilots.
