The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation recently presented a check to the Scotland County Partnership for Children and Families in the amount of $1,000 to support the Scotland County Reading Is Fundamental program.

Paul Mayers, Branch Manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville presented the check to Scotland County Partnership for Children and Families Board Chair, Dr. Eugene Smith.

“We appreciate the Foundations support during these tough economic times, this award is greatly needed for the Scotland County Reading is Fundamental Program,” Smith said.

Mayers has volunteered at the Scotland County Partnership and his son has attended a child care facility in Scotland County participating in the SCRIF program in years past.

Early childhood literacy programs provided by the Partnership such as SCRIF are essential to creating learning environments that prepare children to be successful when they enter school," Mayers said. "We are glad to be able to contribute funding to continue this program for another year.”

The Scotland County Reading is Fundamental is a part of the nationally recognized book giving program that distributes free, quality educational developmentally appropriate books to children in child care facilities in Scotland County in order to promote school readiness and encourage a life long love for books.

Each book distribution volunteers deliver books and an activity that relates to a specific theme (Community Helpers, Cultural Diversity, and Dental Health) to over 30 sites. The Partnership has distributed books to more than 600 children during this past year, and hopes to surpass that number this coming year despite deep budget cuts by the State.

The Scotland County Partnership for Children and Families is located at 227 South Main Street in Laurinburg NC.

Its mission is to “prepare children for success by providing resources for families and the community”.
