Wagram Family Practice Center will opens its doors Saturday morning to host a free Community Health Festival.

“We are very excited to be hosting this health festival for our community members,” said Dr. Taneka Williams, the center’s medical provider. “It is our desire to help improve the health of our community by offering screenings and health information."

Williams said the festival will provides the public an opportunity to talk about health issues that concern them in a relaxed atmosphere. Other medical providers participating in the festival are Dr. Timothy Moses, urologist, and Dr. Frank Yang, general surgeon.

"We have found that patients can sometimes find a physician’s office intimidating," Williams said. "So we invite the community to come out, take advantage of the free screenings, tour our facility, and talk with us one-on-one outside the walls of an exam room. We’ll have tents set up around the center to provide shade and a place to sit and relax while talking to providers and receiving free screenings.

The event, at 24420 Marlboro St., will begin at 11 a.m. and runs until 1:30 p.m..

“We’re looking forward to a fun-filled event with a large turnout,” said Dr. Williams. “Education empowers people to make good choices about their health and health care. We hope many people will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about their personal health status as well as the assistance available to them from other agencies in our area.”

The kids haven’t been left out, she added

“While the adults are learning more about health issues the kids can enjoy the bounce house and the face painting,” Williams said. “They can also explore the fire truck, get fingerprinted by the Wagram Police Department, and meet the K-9 dog from the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department.”

Other agencies which will be on site include: representatives from Scotland Memorial Hospital’s Wound Healing Center; Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, Imaging Department, and Urgent Care Center; Scotland Memorial Foundation; Scotland County Health Department; Hospice of Scotland County; First Path Home Care; Home Assist Medical; and Tarheel Diabetic and Medical Supply which will be providing free diabetes screenings.

The Wagram Community Festival is sponsored by Cooley’s Nursery, Nic’s Pic Kwik, State Farm-Becca Hughes Agency, Wagram Family Practice Center, and Scotland Memorial Hospital.
