The Scotland Community Health Clinic has been newly renovated and has added another treatment room along with an educational room.

The renovations were shown off to the public with a dedication ceremony on Tuesday.

"You all are here today because you believe in our cause," Board chair Linda McQueen said. "I speak for the board when I say we all appreciate all your help on getting this project done."

The clinic serves adult residents of Scotland County who are without medical insurance and who fall at or below federal poverty level standards.

"It's really great to see this facility finished." County Commissioner, Bob Davis said. "This organization is great, and we as commissioners appreciate the work you do to help the people of Scotland County."

Former Medical Director, Dr. Deborah Greimel spoke of how the organization got started three years ago.

"This program got started with a group of concerned citizens," she said. "A lot of time a effort has been put into this project, and without you the volunteers, the staff and the community, this would have never happened."

Scotland Community Health Clinic provides routine care and assists in the management of chronic diseases. Once a month, free mammograms are provided through the Scotland Memorial Foundation. A special women's clinic is also held monthly to help educate and answer questions regarding family planning, hormone replacement and other concerns. Annual physicials and pap smears are also provided during this clinic. Laboratory services and basic imaging services are also provided free of charge. Prescription assistance is available for those medications that have no generic equivalent.

"I have stepped into an incredible program in the Scotland Community Health Clinic," Current Medical Director, Dr. Jonathan Rowson said. "This is a wonderful cause to provide health care to uninsured residents of Scotland County and it is very much needed."

Dr. Lloyd McKaskill agreed with Rowson.

"This program is very much needed and worthwhile for the residents of Scotland County," he said.

Director Donna Young presented awards to Gene McLaughlin for his dedication to the clinic and Jane York who was the Non-Medical Volunteer of the Year.

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust provided the funds for the addition to the clinic.

"We could not be here this evening without the generous commitment of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust who helped us fund this important addition," Young said. "KBR's commitment to rural health care for the uninsured, low-income residents of Scotland County will be enhanced and furthered by this addition."

Young commented that the community had a big part in the existence of the program.

"Without community support we would not be here today, she said. "Today is just as much a tribute to the residents of Scotland County than to the volunteers and staff of this clinic."

McQueen spoke of the staff at the clinic.

"The staff are very dedicated to the clinic and many of them have been here since the beginning, she said. "When your staff is all volunteers, you depend on them to run the show and they have since the beginning, we appreciate that."

As part of the dedication of the clinic, a picnic was provided by Jerry's Deli and Grill for the attendees.

The Scotland Community Health Clinic is located at 1405-B, West Boulevard in Laurinburg.
