The possible academic scandal that looms over Memphis University could possibly involve a former star player from the Laurinburg Institute.

Robert Dozier, a member of the Laurinburg Institute’s power-packed 40-0 national championship-winning team of 2005, was brought up in a story that appeared on the CBS Sports Web site earlier this week. According to the source, Dozier, originially a Georgia recruit, had his SAT flagged after the school reviewed a tip that the 6-foot-9 forward’s score might be “fishy.” Georgia asked Dozier to take the test again, and according to a source with knowledge of the situation, the second test score was “not enough to resolve the issue.” The story states that Georgia officials were less than convinced that the same person took both tests, and the Bulldog program cut ties with Dozier, then and there.

Dozier subsequently enrolled at Laurinburg Prep, along with four other future Tigers (Antonio Anderson, Shawne Williams, Kareem Cooper and Roburt Sallie). He would eventually commit to Memphis, where he helped the Tigers make the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 NCAA tournaments under coach John Calipari.
