Four Scotland High School seniors and one freshman were named to the All Mid-Southeastern 4-A Conference Baseball Team.

Freshman Curt Britt joins seniors Ryan Walker, Kevin Norton, Phillip Williams and Ryan Pierce on the team. Scotland head coach Tommy Britt was named conference Coach of the Year. The 17-year veteran coach of the Scots did perhaps some of his best work this season with a team that started 3-2 in league play before reeling off a nine-game M-SEC winning streak to capture the school's 11th conference title in 17 seasons.

Coach Britt, of course, would credit his fellow coaches and his players for the turnaround.

"All five of these guys were very deserving," he said. "We had four seniors and one freshman, and I'm real proud of all five of those guys. They did a good job for us.

"Ryan (Pierce) and Curt did a real good job on the mound for us all year and won some big games for us. All five of them swung the bat pretty good for us.

"I'm proud of all five of them, and, for our four seniors, I hope the best for them in the future."

Walker was Scotland's leading hitter, batting .434 with three homers, six doubles and 21 RBIs. Walker hit .382 with two homers and 13 RBIs during M-SEC play. The UNC Pembroke -bound catcher was lauded for his defensive play behind the plate, and for his leadership qualities.

Pierce went 6-2 on the mound during the regular season with 58 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA. Pierce was 5-2 with a 2.81 ERA and 44 K's during M-SEC play.

Norton made the All M-SEC team as a shortstop after being named as a second baseman last spring. Norton hit .361 with five homers, five doubles, two triples, 17 walks and nine stolen bases during the season; he hit .310 with five homers and 10 RBIs against M-SEC competition.

Williams served as a designated hitter, pitcher and first baseman for the Scots this season, hitting .381 with five homers, three doubles, two triples and a team-best 28 RBIs. Williams led the Scots with a .419 average during league play, and had three homers and 22 runs batted in during M-SEC games.

Curt Britt pitched and played first base as a freshman for SHS. He went 5-0 with four saves, an 0.89 ERA and 51 strikeouts as a pitcher, and he was 4-0 with a 1.03 ERA, 44 K's and three saves during conference play. Britt hit .309 with three doubles and 15 RBIs, including a .343 average with three doubles and 11 RBIs in M-SEC play.
