Thelma Haywood Norton of Laurel Hill passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the age of 69.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Rev. Junior Quick and the Rev. Bobby Mitchell. Burial will follow the service at Wright Cemetery.

Mrs. Norton was born March 31, 1940 in Scotland County, daughter of James Haywood, Sr. and Lizzie Wright Haywood. She was the devoted wife of the late William Norton, Sr. Thelma dedicated her life to her family and was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed attending the Laurel Hill Full Gospel Church and the Gibson Friendship Holiness Church.

Thelma was preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray Haywood; a daughter, Wanda Ann Haywood Locklear; her brothers, James Haywood, Jr. and Clyde Haywood; and her sisters, Shirley Haywood, Dorothy Haywood and Frances H. Sanders.

She is survived by her son, William Norton, Jr. and wife Myra of Laurel Hill; her daughter, Mary Katherine Starling of Laurel Hill; brothers Charles Haywood of Laurinburg, Edward Haywood of Laurel Hill, and Earl Lee Haywood of Laurinburg; sisters Barbara Shaver of Albemarle and Helen Rush of Hamlet; nine grandchildren, Tasha, Clifton, J.J., Vicky, Christy, Little Danny, Nick, Josh and Matt; many great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
