Richard Lee Locklear, age 65 of Manassas, Va., formerly of Laurinburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in Fairfax, Va.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Rev. Earl Henderson. Burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Richard was born in Scotland County, son of the late James Franklin Locklear and Bertha Lee Richardson Locklear. He was a talented carpenter working 42 years in commercial construction. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, especially in the early days of racing and had a passion for flying.

Richard was preceded in death by brothers Spencer Locklear, John Colon Locklear, Edward Locklear, Herman Locklear, and Prentis Richardson; and sisters Ellar Smith, Bertha Smith and Nellie Strickland.

He is survived by his children, sons Kenneth Locklear of Dudley and Anthony Richard Locklear of Pembroke; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Butler of Laurinburg; brothers Wilbert Locklear and wife Georgia Mae of Laurinburg, Claude Locklear and wife Jean of Laurinburg, and Ray Locklear and wife Mildred of Laurinburg; sisters Mary Reece, Edith Strickland, Shelby Locklear, Velma Strickland and husband Bracy Strickland all of Laurinburg, and Lois Richardson of High Point; three grandchildren; a special friend, Judy Bowen; and a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
