The agenda for tonight's city council meeting is filled with budget and zoning issues.

The city must set a date for a state-mandated public hearing on Laurinburg' budget to allow citizen input.

City staff will recommend the hearing be held on June 19 at the council's next meeting. The budget must be approved by the city next month.

The city must also approve Laurinburg-Maxton Airport' budget, something the airport commission approved at its April meeting.

The city will also decide whether or not to set a public hearing to consider allowing James Graham to rezone his property at 10160 Turnpike Road from residential-6 to general business.

Graham hopes to operate a plant nursery out of the property.

The property was one of two graham had requested to be rezoned for mobile homes earlier this year.

Also on the agenda is two requests by Barbara Cluck, one to allow residential properties to be conditionally-zoned for indoor kennels and the other for a conditional use permit for her property at 12501 Blue's Farm Road to be able to have an indoor kennel. Passage of the latter requires the success the the first request.

Also on the agenda:

• A request by the Retail Recruitment Committee for a $1,000 match for the Building Reuse Predevelopment Grant.

• An ordinance to allow the demolishing of a vacant property at 315 Douglas Street.

• A resolution to lift the hiring freeze to fill a vacant street maintenance position.

• A Brownfield Agreement with with the state concerning the old hospital property at 600 McLean Street – site of the new RCC building.

• A resolution which extends the lease for Silgan Containers Manufacturing Corporation for three years at the airport.

• A resolution to hold a public hearing on possible closing an undeveloped portion of Huntly Street.

• A public hearing on the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.

• A possible closed session to discuss the hiring of the next city manager.
