A special joint-meeting is being held tonight to look at saving taxpayer dollars.

Laurinburg City Council and the Scotland County Board of Commissioners will meet in the Council's chambers at 7 p.m. to discuss possibly consolidating services.

Interim City Manager Dee Hammond said the meeting will look at what services would be made more efficient through consolidation in an effort to lower tax rates and balance municipal budgets.

She was unsure which services may be considered for consolidation, noting that a list was compiled for the elected officials and it would be up to them.

She said it is likely the bodies will revisit the idea of combining tax collection.

Hammond also said that any proposals would have to be researched and would likely not be implemented in the upcoming budget for either the city or the county.
