Deputies arrest two alleged burglars

Two alleged burglars from Raeford are in custody after reportedly returning to the scene of the crime, according to Sheriff Shep Jones.

Deputies arrested 19-year old Toby Lee Patterson, of Pine Forest Mobile Home Park, and 21-year old Jimmy Lee Whigham, of Oglesby, after a breaking and entering in progress call, according to a sheriff's report. The duo is charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny after breaking and entering and one count of misdemeanor larceny.

Jones said that Patterson and Whigham allegedly broke into a storage building on North Turnpike Road belonging to 39-year old Sylvia Small of Wagram.

The two initially stole a tiller and a power drill, according to Jones. They attempted to hock the items in Laurinburg, but the pawnbroker they visited refused to take the items.

They then returned to the building to find something that would be easier to pawn, Jones said. They grabbed a chainsaw, among other power tools.

People noticed the men enter the building when they returned and contacted the sheriff's department. They were arrested at the scene and the stolen items were recovered.
