More than 75 members of the Volunteer Auxiliary of Scotland Health Care System and its affiliates were recognized recently at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet.

A special recognition this year was the President’s Volunteer Service Award, issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States. A total of 72 volunteers received this award which recognizes the best in the American spirit and encourages all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service and civic participation. All award recipients received a personalized certificate of achievement, a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States, a congratulatory letter from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, and an official President’s Award pin.

Earning the President’s Volunteer Award in the Gold Category for volunteering 500 or more hours were: Aline Allen, Elsie Allred, Hannah Atkinson, Lavinia Averitt, Faye Barnhill, Helen Beane, Ruth Bisbee, Cheryl Bodenhamer, Bert Bostic, Gay Bostic, Barbara Broughton, Charlie Buffkin, Beatrice Bullard, Louise Butler, Patricia Butler, Julia Byrd, Wilma Cowan, Annie Davis, Cathy Douglas, Lorene Evans, Glenna Fowler, Mildred Greene, Mary Griesleding, Helen Hardwick, John Herring, Margaret Herring, Michael Hester, Alfred Houston, Meredith Hudson, Annie Sue Hutchinson, Beth James, Patricia Jones, Hazel King, Mae Locklear, Margaret Love, Bobby Lowery, LaVerne McDougald, Nellie McKenzie, Jessie McLaurin, Margaret McQueen, Maria Musgrove, Billy Owens, James Oxendine, Wilbert Perkins, Jacqueline Ray, Johnsie Riggan, Ann Smith, Katie Smith, Mary Lou Smith, Ruby Spry, Barbara Stone, Louise Wallace, Johanna Wicker, Shirley Wicker, Joyce Williams, and Carlene Willis.

Earning the President’s Volunteer Award in the Silver Category for volunteering between 250 and 499 hours were: Dorothy Bethea, Barbara Campbell, Peggy McGregor, Jean Millard, John Millard, Ercel Quick.Earning the President’s Volunteer Award in the Bronze Category for volunteering between 100 and 249 hours were: Dora Abernethy, Kim Ammons, Delores Baxley, Phillip Jones, Marian McRae, and Nancy Smith.

Earning the President’s Call to Service Award for completing 4,000 hours or more of volunteer service in a 12 month period were: Jean Davidson, Evelyn Davis, Charles Locklear, and Joyce Smith.

Volunteers joining the Auxiliary this year were also recognized. They include: Theo Barnes, Joan Flinchum, Cathy Green, Michael Grieselding, Heather Hitchens, Nicole Jacobs, Sarah Jenkins, Carolyn Lambert, Lymus McMillion, Nellie Montgomery, Betty Murphy, Thomas Parker, Barbara Purvis, Helen Roberts, Teresa Robinson, Clara Stewart, Frederica Stuckey, Rachel Tillman, and Aaron Williams.

“Volunteer Service is a rewarding opportunity to help others while giving of yourself, commented Ms. Rogers. “Our volunteers support our mission to provide quality health care. Volunteers and guests were entertained by the 82nd Airborne All America Chorus.

Special guests were Jim Mason, chairman of the Scotland Health Care System Board of Trustees; Dr. Paul Rush, Chief of Staff; Mike Waters, president of the Chaplain program; Greg Wood, system president and CEO; Ruth Glaser, Chief Operating Officer and VP of Operations; and Nancy Rogers, volunteer coordinator. Auxiliary board members present were: Ruth Bisbee, president; Margaret Herring, vice president; Joyce Smith, past president; Hazel King, president elect; Billy Owens, Treasurer; and Barbara Broughton, Secretary.

Volunteer Lorene Evans was presented with a plaque for giving over 25 years of service to the health care system. Volunteer Charlie Locklear was recognized for volunteering over 7,000 hours.
