The Laurinburg/Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced the creation of a new online job board.

Visitors can visit the page at www.scotlandcountyjobs.com or by clicking on the “Employment” tab off of the chamber’s website at www.laurinburgchamber.com.

Employers may post job and internship openings, scholarship opportunities and browse resumes. Applicants may view openings, browse a list of local employment agencies and find other helpful links to employment resources. Chamber members may post openings and resumes at no charge; non-members may post job openings for a nominal fee. The board is free to browse for anyone.

“As part of our workforce development program, we wanted to assist our members in their efforts to hire and retain skilled employees,” said Theresa Lamson, chamber president.

One chamber member, Campbell Soup, has already taken notice of the new service. “Attracting the right talent is a key to the long term success of any business, and having a mechanism to connect employers with local job seekers will always bring value,” said Merrideth Hale, senior human resources manager for Campbell Soup. “We are excited about posting our openings on the new job board on the chamber website as well as being able to view resumes. This will be an excellent low-cost tool to add to our recruiting strategy.”

“This is a great tool to bridge the gap between our employers and workforce,” said Matt Kendall, chamber program director. “Besides being free to use for job seekers and members, it’s very easy to use. This will also let high school and college students get valuable experience interning with local employers.” Future additions to the website will include a resource listing for small businesses seeking guidance on expansion and a general marketplace for members to exchange services among one another.

“The job board is only one part of a comprehensive workforce development program in place at the chamber,” Lamson added. “We are working to use the latest technology and all available resources to make the necessary collaborations and links between the business community and our educational systems in Scotland County.”
