While silent auctions, raffles and door prizes were being awarded in the club house at Scotch Meadows Country Club, a closely contested golf tournament was taking place on the course.
24 ladies making up six ladies teams vied for first place in the ladies' division on Tuesday before over 160 male competitors, divided into 40 teams, came out on Wednesday to compete in the men's division.
Finishing top among men's teams with a combined score of 116 was the grouping of Jeff Bailey, Carl Hamilton, Joe Williams and Richard Wentworth.
In the women's division it was Linda Henderson, Janice Davis, Julia Robinson Kellie Caldwell finishing with the low score in the best ball competition.
WInners of the team contest in both divisions received a $90 gift certificate, redeemable at the Scotch Meadows Country Club pro shop.
Taking second place in the ladies' division team contest and earning a $60 certificate were Lynn Massey, B. Elliot, Mary Tatum and Jo Caldwell.
Second place honors in the men's division went to Doug Stack, Harry Covington, Skeeter Covington and Frank Adams, whose final total was 119.
Longest putt and closest to the pin contests also took place on a number of holes on the course.
Charles Jenkins (hole two), Alan Anderson (hole seven), Ken Harrell (hole 12), and Aubry Oxendine (hole 17) each won $150 gift certificates for coming closest to the pin at those holes.
Jay Todd (hole nine) and Whit Gibson (hole 18) made the longest putts at those holes during the tournament, winning $25 gift certificates in the process.
Awards were also given for individual low scores in each division.
Finishing in first place in the ladies division (individual gross) and winning a $90 gift certificate, with a final round total of 79, was Jo Caldwell. Behind her was Jane Callahan with an 86, good for a $60 gift certificate.
In the ladies' division (individual net) Jennie Meggs's 65 was good for first place and Linda Henderson's 68 was good for second. The two won $90 and $60 gift certificates, respectively.
William Carter's 69 was tops among men (individual low gross), with Doug Stack (70) and Charles Brant (70) finishing behind him.
The men's net score winner was Perry Johnson (62), which tied him with Tom Parker (62). Richard Wentworth finished in third with a 64, followed by Joe Williams and James Robson, both of whom had final totals of 64.
