C. Douglas Aycock

C. Douglas Aycock, 64, of 124 Carriage Park Drive at Seven Lakes West, West End, died April 28, 2009 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 at Pinehurst United Methodist Church, 4111 Airport Rd, Pinehurst. The family will receive friends at home as well as at the visitation on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane in Pinehurst. Burial will be private.

He was the son of Mildred Scott Aycock and the late Elton O. Aycock of Goldsboro.

A native of Wayne County, he was a graduate of Brogden High School and Wake Forest University. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the United States Army as a Captain in the Quartermaster Corps. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

His career in the textile industry spanned from 1972 until the present, where he was vice president of manufacturing at Gulistan Carpet in Aberdeen since 1996 and was previously with Fieldcrest Canon, Karastan Bigelow, and Mohawk Industries.

Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife, Linda Casey Aycock; two sons, Gary Patrick Aycock and wife Emily of Laurinburg and Randall Scott Aycock and wife Robin of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren, Emma Grace Aycock and Aaron Douglas Aycock of Laurinburg; brothers Elton F. Aycock, George A. Aycock, and T. Eugene Aycock, all of Goldsboro; and a sister, Beverly Aycock Ricks of Oak Island.

Martha Sanderson Bowen

Martha Ann Sanderson Bowen of Laurinburg passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the age of 62.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Snead Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Max Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Martha was born Sept. 13, 1946 in New Orleans, La. She was the daughter of the late Evander Hezekiah “Hezzie” Sanderson and Rosa Brock Sanderson. She was a devoted homemaker and a beloved mother and grandmother. She worked for Wallace Trucking Company, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Martha served as a longtime faithful member of the Sneads Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, son Donald Ray Bowen, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter DeAnna “Dee” Smith and her husband Phil of Stella; and a grandson, Brock Alexander Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

Peggy Smith Bledsoe

Graveside services for Peggy Smith Bledsoe, 79, of Hartsville, S.C., will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 in Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Ed Griggs will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. The family will receive friends at the home of John and Jeannette Bledsoe, 407 Law St. and also following the service at the graveside.

Mrs. Bledsoe, widow of John William Bledsoe, Jr., died Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Born in Laurinburg, she was the daughter of the late Stephen J. and Mabel Smith. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and worked at Coker’s Department Store until her retirement.

Surviving are her four children (spouses), John W. Bledsoe, III (Jeannette), Kathy Bledsoe Nelson, Debra Bledsoe, all of Hartsville, and Carolyn Bledsoe Goodale (Ed) of Stafford, Va.; five grandchildren (spouses), Danny W. Grant, Jr. (Kim), Tracy Grant Wallace (Clay), Scott Nelson (Jo), all of Hartsville, Beth Goodale Ray (Jon) of Winston Salem, and Geoff Goodale of Fredricksburg, Va.; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mildred Holden, Bootsie Witten and Grace Russo.
