Investigators say a 59-year-old woman whose body was found inside a vehicle at a Maxton convenience store on Sunday was murdered.

A sheriff’s report said the woman had injuries to her face.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the cause of death because doing so could interfere with the investigation, officials say.

Preliminary results of an autopsy by the Medical Examiners Office in Chapel Hill on Monday confirmed that Gracie Locklear, of 75 Baltimore St. Pembroke was murdered.

Her body was found inside of her 2000 Chevrolet Blazer at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday after a customer at the Chief’s Mini-Mart at 1507 Jacobs Road told a store employee that there was a woman who appeared to be deceased inside the vehicle.
