The Scotland County branch the NAACP will host its annual Mother of the Year Program on Saturday.

Billed as one the local civil rights organization's biggest fundraiser, it begins at 4 p.m. at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

There are eight contestants representing area churches and organizations in Scotland County. The contestants are the following: Queen Long of Spring Branch Missionary Baptist Church; Emma McBride of Nazareth Missionary Baptist; Vera Bassett of Franklin Chapel AME Zion Church; Dorothy McCoy of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church; Gertrude Ingram of Bright Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church; Mrs. Evelyn Allen of 29th Order of Eastern Star; Mrs. Norma Leak of Galilee United Methodist Church and Mrs. Mable Kelly of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

The guest speaker will be Minister Carletha Alford from Franklin Chapel AME Zion Church.
