Ritch shot 77, and he was the Scots' low scorer in all eight M-SEC events this season. Scotland shot 335 to finish fourth as a team, and the Scots also placed fourth in the final M-SEC standings. Pinecrest won the match (287) and the conference, Jack Britt was second (300) in both, and Richmond was third (305) on Monday and for the season.
Scotland qualified for the N.C. 4-A East Regional, which will take place on May 4 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Gates Four Golf and Country Club in Fayetteville.
Scotland's other top scorers on Monday were Chris Thomas (80), Will Purcell (88), Christian Buffkin (90), Antonio Deese (92) and Robbie Wise (93).
Ritch shot scores of 71 and 72 in the third and fourth weeks of the season, and followed two straight 75's with a 76 and a 77. The freshman is not quite playing at the same level he was earlier in the year, and a busy schedule that has included a lot of weekend tournaments could be a factor.
"He's played every weekend now for six weeks," said SHS head coach Bob Ray. "He had qualifying for a tournament in Asheville on Friday, and he played in the tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
"We had a match on Thursday, so Monday was his fifth straight day playing. I think he's just a little tired. We've got Tuesday and Wednesday off, and I think that could really help Matt before the regional tournament."
