FAYETTEVILLE — Senior Megan Brigman's second-half penalty kick goal was the difference-maker in the Scotland girls' soccer team's 1-0 non-conference win at Terry Sanford on Thursday night.

Scotland got a shutout in goal from Jalissa Thomas, as the Scots improved to 11-4 on the year.

"Jalissa, in goal, was brilliant," said SHS head coach Colin McDavid. "The defense, led by Jessi Newton, Courtney Penn and Shea Poage, was outstanding.

"Ashley Harris was man-marking one of their best players. Terry Sanford has a very good team, and to beat them was nice.

"We might be a little tired tomorrow night, but this was the kind of game we needed to be playing before we played Pinecrest again."

Scotland lost to Pinecrest 12-0 earlier this season. The Lady Scots get a second chance at the Patriots tonight at 7 p.m. at Pate Stadium.

The JV Scots lost 9-0 at Terry Sanford on Thursday. They host the Pinecrest JV team at 5:30 today.

Carver softball

WAGRAM — The Carver softball team improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference with a 6-3 victory over Spring Hill on Thursday, taking the Lady Eagles to 2-0 in the season series against the Spartans.

Bailey Jacobs was the winning pitcher for Carver, recording 11 strikeouts while also going 2-for-4 with a double at the plate.

Abby Bray was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple for the Eagles, Jonissa Monley went 2-for-4, Kaitlin Hunt was 1-for-4 with a double and Libby Ingram and Destiny Morrison were also both 1-for-4.

Carver hosts West Hoke on Monday at 4 p.m.

Golf

The Scotland boys' golf team came in fourth at an M-SEC event at Stryker Golf Course on Thursday

The Scots had a team score of 350, placing them behind Jack Britt (327), Richmond (321) and event winner Pinecrest (303).

Matt Ritch was again Scotland's leading scorer, finishing second overall with a score of 76. Robbie Wise shot a 90, Chris Thomas and Will Purcell both shot 92, Antonio Deese shot a 95 and Christian Buffkin carded a 96.
