Local law enforcement agencies have joined with the Domestic Violence Rape Crisis Center of Scotland County to honor Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

To show their support, members of the Laurinburg police and Scotland County deputies tying blue ribbons to their Dodge Chargers and Crown Victorias.

"The sheriff's office strongly supports the initiatives of the Domestic Violence Rape Crisis Center," Chief Deputy Steve Smith said at a brief ceremony Friday.

""The DVRCC is very happy that law enforcement is involved with sexual assault awareness and prevention in the county," Gerry Johnson, director of the rape crisis center said.

"I am proud to represent the sheriff's department on behalf of the DVRCC and Sexual Assault Awareness Month," said Anna Smith, board member of the rape crisis center and sheriff's deputy.
