The Scotland High School baseball team never got its chance to play at the David Poe Memorial Easter Tournament, hosted, or not hosted, you might say, by Anson Senior High this week.

Anson called off the tournament’s opening round on Monday due to a forecast of rain, even though the sun had done down by the time it started raining in Wadesboro.

The second day was called off due to rain and extra games were scheduled for the final day of the event, which was to be Wednesday. The Fighting Scots were slated to play Albermarle and Anson, but the Anson AD called and cancelled the tournament altogether on Wednesday morning.

Scotland will have sat through an 11-day layoff by the time Pinecrest comes to Laurinburg for a key Mid-Southeastern 4-A Conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Scots will enter the home stretch at 10-5, 6-2 in the M-SEC and with four of their final six games at McCoy Field.
