Are you someone who thinks a storyteller is a person who gets up in front of a group and reads a book to everyone? Or do you think storytelling is just for kids who cannot read? The truth is – storytelling is for everyone. Great storytelling features people who are experienced in presenting themselves to audiences; they practice their stories until they are just flawless; they know how to capture the interest of audiences; and they love sharing a good story … their own or a traditional story that they make their own!

Storytelling spans all generations; brings us all closer together; preserves family traditions; makes us laugh and cry; stimulates our memories about happenings in our own lives; encourages us to learn about other traditions and cultures. Storytelling is enchanting, magical, humorous and engaging. Everyone who comes once will want to come back again for more.

The Storytelling Festival of Carolina provides audiences with great storytellers … experienced, accomplished and captivating. The storytellers have been featured at the granddaddy of all storytelling festivals …the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN. And this year the Storytelling Festival of Carolina has added Friday as another day you can enjoy the best in storytelling. Friday, April 24th come out to the John Blue House at 9 am and/or noon and listen to the four featured storytellers weave their tales. For just $6.00 you can hear all four featured tellers on Friday.

Friday night, come to the Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast in downtown Laurinburg at 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm. There you will have the joy of listening to the inaugural SFOC Sampler where 6 storytellers will charm you with their tales. The tickets for Friday night are $5.00 for anyone without a weekend registration.

Saturday and Sunday the Storytelling Festival of Carolina will welcome people from all over the country to the grounds of the John Blue House. The sparkling white tents are set up with state-of-the-art sound systems. Storytelling sessions begin at 10 am and continue until 5 pm. Storytelling workshops will take place at the Museum of Scotland County. And Saturday evening jazz and storytelling will be featured at the annual Meet the Tellers Wine Tasting Gala at the Cypress Bend Vineyards in Wagram. On Sunday, the storytelling sessions begin at 10:30 a.m. with faith stories and a prayer by local clergy. This wonderful weekend of storytelling closes at 3:30 p.m.
