FAYETTEVILLE — The Scotland High School freshman Curt Britt pitched a two-hit shutout and was also 3-for-3 with an RBI at the plate as the Scots took a 9-0 varsity baseball win at Westover on Thursday night.

Britt is 4-0 on the season and also has a pair of saves. Britt struck out 10 Westover batters, walked one and hit one to help his team improve to 10-4 overall and 6-2 with its third consecutive Mid-Southeastern 4-A Conference win.

Scotland was coming off its biggest win of the season, a 3-2 triumph at Richmond Senior that broke a four-game losing streak for the Scots against the Raiders.

"This was a good overall team effort," said SHS head coach Tommy Britt. "Any time you're coming off a big win over an arch rival, you want to see how your team comes out."

Junior Chase Bullock was also 3-for-3 at the plate. Bullock drove in a pair of runs, and one of his hits was a triple. Senior Phillip Williams went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

Travis Walters was 1-for-4 with his first homer of the season and two runs driven in.

Thursday's game was the first in four meetings that the Scots did not end early via the 10-run mercy rule.

"We just didn't score enough runs early," said Coach Britt. "(Curt) pitched a good game, and his pitch count stayed low. We were able to score four runs in the third inning to stretch the lead out."

Scotland will participate in the David Poe Memorial Tournament at Anson County High School this week. The Scots open the tournament on Monday against Albermarle at 4 p.m. Scotland will face East Montgomery on Tuesday at 1 p.m., and will play host Anson on Wednesday at 7.
