A Laurinburg woman was killed in a Monday night shooting, according to officials.

Police say 21-year old Thora Sanders of 910C Charlotte Street was the victim of a drive-by shooting on Raleigh Street at around 9:30.

Sanders was walking with her husband, 22-year old Eurekus Pate, down Charlotte Street when several shots were fired from a passenger seat in a car passing by. The couple had just left a convenience store and police believe they were heading home.

Sanders was lying partially in the road in front of 721 Raleigh Street when emergency personnel responded to a "shots fired" call.

She was rushed to Scotland Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Officials said they believed the death to be caused by a gunshot wound to the chest but were awaiting the results of an autopsy being performed in Chapel Hill.

Pate was not injured in the attack.
