The surprise and limited drama did not last for long, as the Lady Scots plated six runs in the bottom of the fifth and scored two more in the sixth to hand the Pine Forest Trojans an 11-1 loss in six innings on Monday.
Scotland is 8-0 following Monday's win. The Scots made back-to-back errors while allowing their only run in the first inning.
SHS pitcher Taylor Hale did not give up any earned runs and improved to 4-0 with the complete-game victory. Hale struck out 13 Trojans and allowed just two hits and one walk.
Courtney Collins was 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead SHS at the plate. Hale and Ayanna Morrison were both 2-for-3 with a run scored; Kayla Dees and Casey Holmes both came off the bench to go 1-for-3 with a run.
"We started out sluggish, and we didn't come prepared to play," said SHS head coach Joel McCanna. "It was 3-1 heading into the fifth inning, and I started to fuss a little bit ... We finally settled down and started playing some softball.
"I think the girls thought it was going to be an easy game because we had already beat them over there. Pine Forest kept the game close until we finally decided we wanted to play, and then we were able to break the game open."
The JV Scots play at Hoke today at 5 p.m.
