A Laurinburg police officer resigned last week after allegations of inappropriate conduct, according to authorities.

Sanford Caulder was suspended on March 1 after being accused of inappropriate behavior, said interim Police Chief Kimothy Monroe. Caulder resigned on March 4. Monroe did not characterize what the behavior was.

Caulder served with the department for two years as a patrolman.

No criminal charges have been brought against Caulder. The case has been referred to the State Bureau of Investigation, Monroe said.

Monroe and SBI spokespersons declined to give further information about the case.
