Elite Dance competes in SC

On Feb. 9-10, students of the Elite Dance Academy of Laurinburg competed in the Encore Dance Competition for the Stars in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Elite Petite and Senior troupes represented the studio. They competed against 17 other studios from North and South Carolina during the weekend competition.

In their first competition of the season, the elite petite troupe won high gold in jazz and silver in tap. They also placed third overall with tap and fifth overall with jazz. The elite petite troupe members are Chona Bullard, Nikayla Buxton-Horne, Destanee’ Emanuel, GeNazshja Gilchrist and Danielle Griffin. The petite troupe is under the direction of Kasey Peeler-Pittman.

The elite senior troupe won platinum in their hip-hop dance and high gold with their jazz dance. They also won first overall in the small group division and highest score of the day out of all the senior recreation dances with their hip-hop routine. Members of the elite senior troupe are Amaziah Easterling, Georgianna McQueen, Omega Roberson, and Sommore Terry.

“For the first competition of the season, our girls did a fabulous job,” said director Tonya Drakeford. “I am definitely proud of all our dancers and thankful for our wonderful and supportive parents.”

The EDA troupes will be competing in their second competition of the season in Louisburg on March 9.
