Laurence Spencer "Larry" Greene, Jr., 87, of Laurinburg passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at Scotia Village.

He was born in Rochester, N.Y. on Oct. 7, 1925 to Laurence Spencer and Gladys Tozier Greene. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1948, he married Shirley Ann Larsen in Waukegan, Ill. In 1964, the couple moved to Laurinburg to open the Johns Manville plant in Maxton. He was the plant manager from 1964 to 1974 when he was transferred to headquarters in Denver, Colo. In 1977, he transferred back to Laurinburg where he served as plant manager until his retirement in 1982. In 1989, the couple moved to Melbourne, Fla. to be closer to family. When Shirley passed away in 2001, Larry moved back home to Laurinburg.

He is survived by his children Sherry and Hank Nelson of Indialantic, Fla., Tom and Suzi Greene of St Louis, Mo., and Nancy Greene of Phoenix, Ariz., his friend and companion Carol Whitehead of Laurinburg, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Scotia Village on Monday, Feb. 18th from 4-5 p.m.

Memorial services will be held at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Feb. 19th at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow.
