A pair of fundraisers benefiting a Scotland High School sophomore will take place at the Scotland County Clerks of Court and Sheriff’s Office on Valentine’s Day.

Beginning at approximately noon Feb. 14, the Clerks of Court building will host a bake sale that will feature a variety of confections donated from various members of the community. After the bake sale concludes, A raffle will then take place at the Sheriff’s Office, where contestants have the chance to win a 42” LCD TV, an IPad Mini and/or $100 in cash.

All money raised will go towards Scotland sophomore Kytel Collins-Jackson, a standout student athlete who recently earned the chance to take part in the ‘People to People’ Ambassador Program. Selected as one of 42 students from a field of 400 from throughout North Carolina for his exceptional academic record, Collins-Jackson will have the opportunity in June of this year to travel to Europe to raise global awareness through the interaction of different cultures throughout the world.

A story on Collins-Jackson entitled Europe bound: Scotland community bands together to help make trip happen for SHS sophomore ran in the Laurinburg Exchange on Christmas Day.

In order for Collins-Jackson to afford the trip, however, he must raise $7600 for the resulting expenses including room, travel and board.

Ticket prices for the bake sale are $1 per-item, and the raffle cost is $5 for one ticket and $25 for six tickets. In order to enter the raffle, tickets must be purchased by 11:25 a.m. on Valentine’s Day.
