The phrase "familiarity breeds contempt" is one Carver head baseball coach Tim Pierce would not disagree with, as his Carver Middle School baseball team's rivalry with cross-county conference foe Spring Hill is one fueled by players who have shared teams and coaches in the past.

In this year's edition of the hotly contested game, Carver edged out Spring Hill 6-4 as a cold rain began to fall.

Spring Hill rallied in the top of the fourth for three runs, knotting the game up at four, before Carver responded with one run in the the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the fifth, to close the door on the Spartans.

Pitching was key for the Eagles, as starter Blake Bennett pitched four innings, allowing four runs, before Trae Revels came in and shut down the Spartans for the game's final stretch.

"Our pitching was great, and Trae (Revels) really shut them down," commented Pierce following the game.

Bennett also contributed on offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Other offensive leaders for Spring Hill were Tim Pierce (2-for-3, walk), Brandon Gibson (1-for-2, double), Cody Fay (single) and Blake Hunt (run, single).

There were fewer offensive standouts for the Spartans, who had difficulty dealing with Carver pitching. T. McDonald, J. Brown, and P Cummings all recored singles for the Spartans.
