I remember graduating from High Point University and going to work for the High Point Chamber of Commerce.

It seemed that everywhere I went and most of my activities, I was always the youngest person in the room. A lot of what I was involved in was required because of my employment in the chamber, which helped me be involved in the community, learn about the City and keep up with current events.

However, I often thought that had it not been for that being part of my job, I wouldn’t have had some of those opportunities, but I still sometimes would look around the room and wonder where others were my age.

I can’t help but believe that there are many young people who at that age when you graduate from college feel the same way I did. When you are in college, it seems that you have so many friends … 24 hours a day, you can find someone to talk to or hang out with, but when you graduate and all go your separate ways, suddenly, you only have a few close friends.

At the chamber, under the leadership of Currie McCook, we have established a Young Professionals Network, so that those who are between the ages of 21 and 40 can have an opportunity to network with one another and grow friendships.

We will be holding an informational session on today hosted and sponsored by Wooly McDuff’s at 1705 US 401 South from 6 until 7:30 pm.

Along with Currie, other leaders of the group include Mary Margaret Thames, Joe Fulton, Andy Cagle, Holly and Britton Goodwin.

These young leaders of our community are excited about the possibilities of this new program and we hope to have lots of people to join us.
