Eulas “Weldon” Strickland, 70, of Laurinburg passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Hillside Memorial Park.

Weldon was a son of the late Belton Strickland and Ola Mae Bullard Strickland born on July 18, 1942 in Scotland County. He was the loving husband to the late Linda G. Strickland. He had a distinguished career with the United States Army retiring with more than 20 years proud service. He served two combat tours in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his service and bravery. Weldon was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He enjoyed reading and movie watching, but he especially loved his time with family and friends.

Surviving are his children, sons Wendell Strickland and wife Diana of Chandler, Ariz. and Wayne Strickland and wife Burnatte of Madison, Ala., his daughter Angie Chavis and husband Robert of Laurinburg, brothers Howard Strickland of McColl, S.C., Arnold Strickland of Shelton, Conn., James Strickland of Chesterfield, S.C., and Richard Strickland of Laurinburg, sister Brenda McLendon of St. Pauls, 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
