"The town board of commissioners will be meeting Tuesday to consider a number of projects relevant to the town," Wagram Town Clerk Phyllis Lowery said. Included on the agenda are the recreation building, the new town hall, use of the old town hall, the town festival, and salaries.
The public is invited to view to the proceedings, but no opportunity will be available for citizens to express their opinions or to ask questions of the commission, according to Lowery.
"This is solely an opportunity for the commissioners and for Mayor Farmer to make some decisions regarding the items on the agenda and to discuss the town's goals for the future," Lowery said. "It is open to the public, but it is not a time for public interaction with town officials."
Among the items scheduled to be discussed include the town's annual festival and a new town recreation facility. The 11,700 square foot structure will include a basketball court, a volleyball court, a portable shuffleboard court, an interior walking track, a fitness room, and more. The facility will be built with the assistance of a grant and with funds from Scotland County.
Council member Linda Tindall is in charge of the annual Wagram Pig Pickin' festival, to be held Sept. 11-12.
"I will be bringing the other members of the council up to date on the progress of the festival," Tindall said. "We will have some good musical entertainment coming, and a new kids' train that looks like Thomas and runs on grass or pavement. This year's festival should be a whole lot of fun."
The mission statement of the Town of Wagram is "to promote the general welfare and quality of life for the citizens of which we serve through sound planning and development."
