To the editor:

Michael A. Alford Sr. wrote a Nov. 29 letter titled “Thankful for Obama.”

So he is thankful for a $16 trillion debt. High unemployment. Obamacare taxes — and they will go up more in 2014. High gas prices — remember $1.84 a gallon when Obama came to office? More government jobs — 115,000 IRS agents to set up regulations for Obamacare. Economy worse than ever before. Cost of living is out of control. Obama continuing to campaign costing American taxpayers millions of more dollars and Hawaiian vacations yet to come.

Really it doesn’t seem these are things to be proud of.

Millions of Americans cannot find work and have to get food stamps to survive. But our president is into entertainment at the White House and golfing vacations in Hawaii. Others are homeless fro the storm with no heat.

Seems strange to me. but Mr Alford seems to be happy about it. I’m thankful the president hasn’t done more.

Evelyne Brannan-Rushin

"Letter: No Thanks": Ms Brannan-Rushin's response appears to be typical of Obama-haters, she doesn't let facts get in the way of her dislike for all things Obama. First, the President has nothing to do with the price oil of gasoline. There is a world market for oil and oil products, of which gasoline is one by-product. Second, the high deficit was inherited from the previous administration. The President has been trying to m adderss the deficit, but has gotten no cooperation from repubicans. A bill addressing the employment problem has been passed by the senate, but house republicans have refused to even allow an up or down vote on it. I am a retired IRS employee, and I have to say Ms Brannan-Rushin is totally wrong in her assertion that 115,000 IRS agents are poised to deal with Obamacare. There have been a loss over 800,00 federal jobs in the last three years due to republican cuts in the federal budget. Finally, the President has worked tirelessly on behalf of allAmericans, especially the middle-class, to improve their standard of living. He has spent far fewer days vacationing than his predecssor, and it is not at taxpayers expense. Get your factos straight before putting forth ill-informed, outlandish statements in public. I'm fairly certain that even as Ms Brannan-Rushin feels justified in making her false accusations, she is probably enjoying many of benefits the President has mad epossible for majority of Americans, such as lower taxes and benefits under the Affordable Care Act.

The real shame in this is that more than half of the population of the US apparently is unaware of these facts, doesn't understand, or doesn't care. It truly is a sad turning point in the history of this country.
