Nancy Walker was elected Tuesday night as chairman of the board of trustees for the Scotland Health Care System.
Walker’s selection came during the board’s annual meeting at the WR Dulin Conference Center. She replaces retired Superior Court Judge B. Craig Ellis.
Also elected were Mike Vinson as vice chairman and Jane Rogers of Bennettsville as treasurer. Newly elected to the board are Allen McLaurin, who was also elected to chair the Scotland Memorial Foundation Board; and Chip Shytle, who also continues to chair the Edwin Morgan Center Board.
Ellis remains on the board for another two years as past chairman.
Dr. Donna Richardson, pathologist, chief of the medical staff, joins Doctors Rick Alexander, Kelvin Raybon, Michael O’Donnell and past chief, Dr. Jonathan Rowson as physician trustees.
The board recognized outgoing trustees Jim Mason and Wayne Hobbs. These two board members were thanked and honored for their service to the health care system with a framed portrait of the hospital at various stages of its development.
President and Chief Executive Office Greg Wood said Scotland Health Care ended the year strong in service excellence, and received an “A” grade on the just released, national Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Score.
“We were extremely delighted with the community’s tremendous support for Scotland Memorial Foundation’s Cardiovascular Healthcare Initiative and we remain strong due to the outstanding assistance provided through our affiliation with Carolinas Health Care System,” he said.
Wood added that top accomplishments included the formation of the Scotland Physicians Network; the upgrade of the information systems; the addition of 11 physicians; and the sustained improvements in the treatment times and quality of care in emergency center.
Scotland Health Care System will hold its Annual Community Meeting on Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. This event is held in the W.R. Dulin Conference Center at the Community Health and Rehabilitation Center and all interested community members are invited to attend. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served.
“Though our industry challenged with much uncertainty ahead, we are confident that we can continue our successes due to the complete commitment of our trustees, physicians, volunteers, and hospital staff working together to deliver the finest care they can to our communities,” Ellis said.
