Matthew 27: 45 – “Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.”

The day after Thanksgiving is the start of the Christmas shopping frenzy. It is traditionally known as “Black Friday,” because it is on this day that retailers hope to put their books in the black. Great sales – great hopes – great plans – great day.

About 2000 years ago, there was a real “Black Friday,” the day that Jesus Christ was crucified. That Friday, now called Good Friday, was a day that showed mankind at his very lowest point – the day the creature sought to kill the Creator. It was on the surface a very dismal day – but underneath we see the truth of a great and marvelous love – the love of God that came and died to provide us with the ultimate day of balancing our books. Christ paid what we could not pay – He delivered a great salvation with great hope and great reward. Accept His payment, and have a New Hope for Today.

Marshall is pastor of New Hope Baptist Church
